Telekom Malaysia International woos Narayana Murthy

Narayana Murthy, or "Bill Gates of India", the guy who is instrumental in bringing up Bangalore and has been instrumental in helping out Malaysia as one of our International Advisory Panel Member for our Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).

I had the priviledge to hear Narayana Murthy speaks when he went to Cornell University during the inauguration ceremony of Jeffrey Lehman as Cornell's President. I still remembered that I asked him a question on MSC, and he was able to share with the Cornell audience on our MSC. He even remembered the date he came to Malaysia!

And now, I read from the Edge that Telekom Malaysia International is trying to woo Narayana Murthy to be one of its Board Member. This would definitely be a great move!

Telekom Malaysia International Wants Murthy on Board, Edge Says

By Stephanie Phang

Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Telekom Malaysia International wants Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys Technologies Ltd., to join its board, along with a board member from Spain's Telefonica SA, the Edge weekly said, citing unidentified people.

The telecoms company is due to be listed by April after parent Telekom Malaysia Bhd. splits its fixed-line and mobile units, the report said.

The international unit's Bangladeshi partner, AK Khan Group, is also seeking to sell its 30 percent stake in their venture Aktel, the magazine reported, without saying where it got the information from. Emirates Telecommunications Corp. of the United Arab Emirates, Vodafone Group Plc, NTT DoCoMo Inc. and MTN Group Ltd. are among potential bidders, it added.
