Cornell Newsletter for Singapore

Cornell Newsletter for Singapore

-----

My fellow Cornellians,

Oh behalf of our new executive committee I would like to tell you how excited we are to be undertaking the next year's worth of Cornell activities.  We are very much looking forward to bringing you programs that run the gamut from social and philanthropic to active and educational.  It kicks off this month with the annual DUAL Thanksgiving dinner, a huge success last year so do sign up soon.  Wine tasting, rock climbing, Cornell Cares Day and an F1 event are already being planned, and we would love to hear from you about what you would like to see, so please drop me an email with your ideas.

The Cornell Club Singapore exists for you.  Our goal is to get fellow alumni together and build on the bonds that formed a few (or many) years ago.  Do let us know how we can get you involved in this effort.

Please read below for information on Thanksgiving Dinner and CAAAN volunteers.  This email will also be followed by the latest DUAL newsletter.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the next year.

Thanksgiving Dinner

'Last year we again had a full house of about 220 people from 10
alumni clubs (members of DUAL) at our popular Thanksgiving/Year End
Holiday dinner where everyone had a grand feast and a wonderful time.
We will again be holding this popular event this year and we would
like to again invite all DUAL member clubs who are interested to join
in to co-organize - on Saturday, November 29th at the American Club.
This will NOT be billed as a 'DUAL' event but an event co-organized by
the alumni clubs of Columbia, MIT, UPenn, etc...

The buffet menu will be exactly the same as last year with turkey,
stuffing, ham, mash potatoes and the whole works. The event will be informal
with lots of networking and socializing, and will be followed by
......whatever we want or just more socializing.

Last year, by popular demand, we brought back the fundraising and
lucky draw to raise funds for DUAL programs like website maintenance
and the DUAL! -SMU Technology and World Change Competition.  The funds
from the lucky draw will be donated to 'Food from the Heart' http://www.foodheart.org/

Please let us know if you or your company would like to participate in donating items for this wonderful cause.

For the Thanksgiving Dinner, the charge will be:

$45 for members/spouse of DUAL member clubs
$60 for non-members/spouse of DUAL member clubs
$25 for kids ages 5 to 11
Free for kids below 5

RSVP to andrea.quach@gmail.com  by November 10th.

Early decision deadline has closed and we already have 14 applications. Every year, Cornell gets about 400 applications from Singapore, which has been the highest application intake of Asia (only surpassed by China last year)!

If you are interested in helping out with CAAAN, please fill out the attached registration form.  It's from Cornell-CAAAN's website, which is also helpful to go through.

We will see if we can assign early applicants to alumni for informal one-to-one information discussions (other than Hotel and Architecture schools, formal interviews are not required).  Otherwise, we will look to hold a joint reception for all applicants in January, and a reception in April for the accepted students.

If you have any CAAAN questions, please contact rstscw@yahoo.com.sg

Thank you!  Susan
