Dear Chen Chow, I sent you an email yesterday. I guess you did not receive it, so I am reposting it here
Dear Chen Chow,

First of all, I wish to congratulate you on your informative blog. I just stumble
into it yesterday.

Wabash has accepted my son Ian and he is on Middlebury's wait list.We are still waiting for a reply from Colby.

I have a few questions and hope you are able to help me.

How long do we have to wait before we get a reply from wait list.?

My son's name is written as Low Shimin Ian . In form I-20 given by Wabash It was written as first name : Shimin
and middle name : Ian. This is usually a confusion among us Asians. What would his name appear as in his certificates
and all documents? We would prefer it to be as what is written in his birth certificate. Can you plse clarify?

Applying for Visa.
I understand this can take quite some time.As we are still waiting for a confirmation of a place in Colby/Middlebury, can we proceed with application using Wabash's Form I-20 and then ask for the visa to be changed if we have a positive reply form the 2?

If we cannot apply for the visa as yet, when would be the last we have to put in the visa application?

Hope you can clarify our doubts. If you need to contact me by phone, my no. is 03 78421362 or if you want me to call you then plse let me have your contact no.

Thank you
Best regards
Mrs Low

Dear Mrs. Low,

Sorry for my late reply. Have received more than a couple hundreds emails over the past few days.

Somehow i didn't get your email though.

For wait list, it could be any time from now till august, or never. Essentially, he can pull out from wait list any moment.

On name, US format would be as follow:-
Last Name: Low
First Name: Ian
Middle Name: Shimin

On how this is written by them, i believe they follow what Ian wrote when fill up the form.

His name in US would be "Ian Shimin Low" or "Low, Ian Shimin".

I believe they have a , after they write the word Low, if they write the whole thing.

I think Ian needs to inform the campus to put Ian as the first name, and Shimin as middle name.

What would appear that would based on what US format is. Shouldn't be an issue, since people are used to that format, and it is internationally recognized.

For visa, you should be able to get it approved within 1 working day (or just a couple of working days), unless some problem with his details.

Hope this clears the air.
