Merdeka

I know this is way overdue. Sorry for my delay in sharing this analysis.

This survey was done between 6th September to 16th September, where I asked my blog readers, which National Day would they celebrate.

And the response I got was:-
13 said that they would celebrate 16th September
10 said that they would celebrate both 31st August and 16th September
5 said that they would celebrate 31st August.

Personally, if you ask me which day to celebrate, I would say that both days have its significance.

For 31st August, it is the day that Malaya was no longer under British Rule. So, this is our Independence Day.

For 16th September, this is the day where Malaysia is founded, where our friends from East Malaysia (I know that I should be shot to say that I haven't been to East Malaysia...ashamed and embarrassed) joined us in Malaysia. So, this is our National Day!

What do you think?

Would encourage any of my blog readers to share with me any event that you come across. As long as the event/activity/initiative is education/charity/youth oriented and is not-for-profit, I would be more than happy to post it to share!

I would say both are significant albeit in different ways. If I have my way, I would love to see both days being given equal importance in the country.

Anyway technically, there was no such thing as Sarawak, Sabah and Singapore *joining* Malaya. Instead, thirteen different states come together and form a new federation called Malaysia. Just being pedantic though. :P

Thanks for pointing out... Yeah, agree with you that another way of looking at it is that Malaya was dissolved and all 13 states + Sg form the new Malaysia.

Selamat Hari Raya over there!
