Thanks to Yvonne Chua, President of Malaysian Students Association at University of Virginia, Charlottesville (UVA) for the info below.

This would be a good info session for those of you who aspire to study at UVA

The University of Virginia, Charlottesville is a public research university located in Charlottesville, Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of United States of America. Conceived by 1800 and established in 1819, it is the only university in the United States to be designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, an honor it shares with nearby Monticello. In the U.S. News & World Report 2010 edition, the undergraduate program at U.Va. ranked #2 (tied with UCLA) out of roughly 200 public universities in the United States and #24 overall in a tie with UCLA (including privates). Most notably, UVa's undergraduate business program at the McIntire School of Commerce is ranked number 1  among US undergraduate business schools by Businessweek (see http://images.businessweek.com/ss/09/02/0226_best_undergrad_bschools/index.htm).

"Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University sustains the ideal of developing, through education, leaders who are well-prepared to help shape the future of the nation."

Global UGRAD Program

Thanks to Khai Shing for highlighting this. This is about Global UGRAD program, where Malaysian university students get to be sponsored and spent 1 semester or 1 year at US universities as part of an exchange program. You would be taking courses not part of your degree program there, and hence it might delay your graduation by 1 semester or 1 year.

However, the exposure to get mingling with Americans and living/staying with them, and other international students would be great exposure.

Moreover, you would be getting scholarship for this. Do check out the details at here .

If you could do the 1-year program, you would have the chance to do internship in US too! And for both the 1 semester or 1 year program, you would get the chance to do community service there too!

To get a feel of how it is like, do go to Khai Shing's sharing of her experience .

Check it out!

Online Product Marketing Specialist - JobStreet.com

Many of you might have heard me speaking (virtually or physically) about my experience working in JobStreet.com . And I would say that I really learn a lot over the past 1.5 years (time flies), and currently, JobStreet.com is looking to hire Online Product Marketing Specialist. It would be a very exciting role, where you would really get to make a difference.

Some of the interesting aspects that I see about this role:-
a) You get to write emails that would be sent to 6.5 Million people in 7 countries in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India and Japan. In fact, your write up would be translated into Bahasa Indonesia and Thai language.

b) You get to design product landing page in JobStreet.com, and it would be impactful, where the page that you conceptualize would be viewed by many thousands of people. (Total page view for JobStreet.com per month is more than 70 Million).

and many more...

This is definitely an exciting and challenging role, where you would get to work from running online product marketing, manage/building online partners/affiliates, copy-writing of sales copy/email direct mailers etc, as well as do analytical stuff to analyze on traffic, conversion etc.

In all, this role would really provide you a platform to be an online marketing expert!

Do check out at here . Feel free to let me know if you have any question.

Malaysia Forum Australia - 25th October 2009

Malaysia Forum is now in the shore of Australia!!! Great that Hafiz, Ying Ying and others are taking effort to make it happen. It would be at University of New South Wales campus!

For more info, do check out here . Do help to spread the words around.

Date: Sunday, October 25, 2009
Time: 10:30am - 2:00pm
Location: Room 203, The Law Building, Building F8
Street: Union Road, University of New South Wales, Kensington Campus NSW 2052
City/Town: Sydney, Australia

Description of it:-
The "Merdeka Agreement" signed on August 5 1957 is arguably the basis of the much talked about social contract in Malaysia. In general, it touches on the position of the Malays and Islam in the country. Discussions on Malaysia will necessarily touch on the issue for it necessarily defines the identity of Malaysia. At times, the issue generates heated debate in public sphere.

Professor Clive Kessler of UNSW will share his perspective on the matter at this session of Malaysia Forum Sydney. He is a Professor Emeritus at School of Social Sciences and International Studies at UNSW. As stated in his profile page at UNSW, he focuses his research effort on "politics, religion, culture and social change in Malaysia and South East Asia".

He is considered as an expert on Malaysia. His views are frequently sought after by Australian and Malaysian institutions for insightful comments on the Southeast Asian country.

The Malaysia Forum is a non-partisan and non-profit entity that seeks to promote discussion of affairs affecting civil society in Malaysia through various media and public dialogue. The Forum also hopes to raise awareness of civil society issues by providing a neutral platform for the exchange of ideas and resources for further action.

13th World Business Dialogue

Check out the 13th World Business Dialogue. For strong business aspirant, this is a great conference!

---

Each year, the "Organisationsforum Wirtschaftskongress (OfW e.V.)" — a non-profit student organization — welcomes 300 professionals and 300 of the top international students to Cologne, Germany, to discuss important topics in today's economy and society.  This event is the World Business Dialogue and on March 17th and 18th, 2010, we will hold our 13th Dialogue.  The convention's goal is to improve international relations by providing a platform for dialogue and discussion between students and leaders of all branches of society. Past leaders have included Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg and Josef Ackermann, CEO of Deutsche Bank. Like no other business convention can, the World Business Dialogue provides a platform for creative ideas and solutions that will shape tomorrow's industries.  Its unique strength is derived from the participants, who help shape the direction of the dialogue.

This year, we focus our attention on the values of a changing global economy through the topic "Crisis Demands – A Call for True Sustainability".  We will be concentrating on the events that triggered the current economic crisis and the fundamental changes that have resulted.  How should corporations be reacting to these issues?  Can businesses adapt incrementally or will they need to dramatically alter their strategies? Are companies truly seeking sustainable changes or will they revert back to old habits once the crisis is over?

If you are a student who is interested in participating in the 13th World Business Dialogue, we encourage you to look at our website (www.world-business-dialogue.com).  Here you will be able to find more information about the event and begin the application process.

You can follow our link to a video from last year's conference, OFW-Image-Trailer.

For more information, please visit www.world-business-dialogue.com or join our Facebook Fan Page "World Business Dialogue".

We are looking for extraordinary students to attend the 13th World Business Dialogue and would like to ask for your help.  Please forward this email onto any students or organizations you believe would be interested in attending the convention.

"Be part of us – Be part of the 13th World Business Dialogue"

Sincerely,

Tiffany Woelfel & The International Relations Department

Help Yen Kee

I blogged about Yen Kee's situation a few days ago. You can refer to it here . She was unfortunate to be down with leukemia.

Good to see many people chip in to donate to the cause. Guang Ming Daily has also set up an account for her, as well as her classmates and friends set up a blog site as well.

Michael Reyes has also leveraged on HOPE to carry out fund raising for Yen Kee, besides many who have helped to spread the words around.

Agnes Tan has also rallied among the Bukit Tabur hikers to offer hiking guide trips for those who donated to Yen Kee via Guang Ming Daily. You can get the info at here .

Hope to see many chip in!

Fund Raising for Penang Adventist Hospital

Thanks Krista for sharing on this.

-----

Dear friends

My friend, Nancy will be going bald for charity come 1 November. I know her personally and she's one big-hearted woman, putting in lots of hours in raising funds for the sick and needy.

Nancy is the Development Manager of Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH). She will be raising funds for PAH because as you know, PAH sponsors heart patients, and those who are suffering from serious illness (cancer, chronic kidney disease, accidental head injury, tumour, major burns, major organ transplant, Parkinson's disease, HIV, cleft palate repair and major amputation of limbs).

In a nutshell, Nancy will be going bald for charity on 1 November to collect funds for PAH.

Yes, bald.

She is shaving off all her hair in aid of charity come this 1 Nov. during the PAH organised charity food fair. This is one courageous woman!

The charity fair will feature about 85 food stalls offering vegetarian, non-vegetarian and even halal food inclusive of games store. There will also be entertainment, games, lucky draws and "Penang Greatest Shave" and many other interesting activities.

Of course you don't have to shave off your hair to help - but you can contribute in your own way.

You can support PAH by:

1. Setting up food stalls

2. Sponsoring a food stall (RM500 and above)

3. Major supporters with a minimum contribution of RM5,000 will be acknowledged during the event and on the backdrop of the stage

4. Donations in form of food, lucky draw or game prizes

5. Cash or cheque donations. All cheques should be made payable towards "Adventist Hospital & Clinic Services' for Dr J Earl Gardner Fund. Tax-exemption receipts will be issued.

6. Helping sell the charity fair tickets at RM20 per booklet.

If you and your business can help, please email Nancy [ nancyong@pah.com.my ] directly before October 15, 2009.

What's more, help forward this email to as many friends as you can. PAH needs all the support it can get. ;-)

Thanks!

Krista
