ALUMNI COORDINATOR

The American Embassy invites applications for the post of Alumni Coordinator which is for a one-year period with a possibility for extension.  The incumbent for the Alumni Outreach and Programs position is responsible for promoting greater contact and cooperation among former participants of US Government exchange programs in consultation with the Public Affairs Office and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Alumni Office.   The incumbent accomplishes this goal by: organizing events and programs for countrywide alumni audiences; integrating alumni into all Mission programs; liaising with the ECA Alumni Affairs Office; preparing funding  proposals; preparing and disseminating news and information of general interest to alumni; helping to maintain the ECA database of alumni records (Global Alumni Archive Database); creating/maintaining country and/or program communities on the ECA alumni state website (alumni.state.gov); contributing content to this website and coordinating the promotion of the ECA State Alumni Website among the different alumni audiences throughout the country with Embassy colleagues.   

Applicants must have a University degree in the liberal arts, education, social sciences, international affairs or related fields and have 2 to 3 years administrative experience, preferably in a bilingual setting.  Must be fluent in Level 4 fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia required. Must be able to read and draft routine correspondence in both languages and to facilitate working level contacts within the embassy and branch post, as well as with local organizations and alumni.   Must be familiar with general office procedures including filing, typing and drafting correspondence. Thorough knowledge of various computer software programs, specifically Word, Excel and database required. Ability to independently perform all administrative tasks required.  Ability to learn/understand the policies and set-up of various exchange programs.  Writing and translation skills required.  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and maintain working level contacts with alumni, partner organizations, ECA and Embassy contacts.  Tact and discretion essential.  A high degree of reliability, flexibility and accuracy necessary.

The basic starting salary is RM38,405 per annum.  Benefits include a two-month year-end bonus, a competitive EPF contribution rate and life and health insurance coverage.
